Ivan Daes is a seasoned design and product professional who helps companies and organisations build scalable, successful and beautiful digital products and services.

Product Design

Designing a successful digital product or service is a multi-step and iterative process.
Working for a variety of clients has thought me that a hyperfocus on user centricity and design best practices, surrounded by a culture of design thinking and inclusivity produces great customer experiences.

Design Thinking

Design thinking is an essential part of my mental framework as it prioritizes user needs and empathy, leading to the creation of innovative, user-centric and inclusive solutions that not only solve real-world problems but also delight customers and drive business success.

User Centricity

User centricity means more then user research and analysing data points. It also means focussing on the user at al times at any cost and understanding that this will benefit the bottom line. Prioritizing user needs is vital for creating products that truly resonate with customers.

Inclusive Design

When designing and developing digital products and services  we have to be aware and challenge our own biases and make sure that we design for people of all abilities and backgrounds.

Product Strategy

Encompassing business goals, brand strategy and user insights into your why, how and what
I enjoy working with organisations who have a clear product strategy. With a deep understanding of a company's strategy and user needs we can build products that resonate with users and bring value to their lives.

I also love assisting organisations with finetuning their vision, mission, value proposition into a clear and widely supported product strategy.

Defining SMART outcomes

It is important to identify key outcomes we want to achieve. These should be specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, and time-bound (SMART). What are the impact and value we want to bring to users and the business?

Understanding user needs

Users' minds aren't occupied with product innovation and long term vision. While research, surveys, and direct user feedback allow you to gain insights it is important to understand that user know everything.

Measure what matters

What are the metrics that truly measure the outcomes we want to achieve? How do we measure success? Having a clear answer to these questions early on allows you to focus on outcomes that support our goals.

Prioritising impact with RICE

I prefer prioritising tasks and features based on their potential impact on desired outcomes. The Rice scoring model based on Reach, Impact, Confidence and Effort ensures that we focus on high-impact features.

Release features incrementally

Defining a Minimal Viable Product that you can release quickly and update with a feature roadmap is important.
It allows us to bring value to the users and gain insights quickly, and adjust our strategy with the knowledge acquired during the process.
A design system is the foundation of any scalable digital product or service

Design Systems

A design system makes products consistent, efficient, and recognizable.
A design system is a strategic investment that can significantly improve a SaaS company's bottom line by enhancing user experience, increasing development efficiency, and fostering brand recognition.

After designing, developing and implementing several design systems over de last decade I have learned that there are numerous benefits to implementing a scalable design system early on.

Scalability

As a digital product grows and new features are added, the design system provides a scalable foundation by providing a framework and ready-to-use building blocks.

Webflow

After 3 decades of hand-coding website, switching to Webflow was a game changer
Long gone are they days where elaborate web projects would take months to develop and maintenance was complex and time-consuming. Webflow allows you to build scalable websites and prototypes that can to to market or to user testing in a fraction of the time of traditional website development.

No code = great code

Writing accessible, scalable and high-quality code is hard, and time consuming. I have learned that some no-code solutions offer a benefit on all these fronts, and incorporating them early can truly benefit the in the proof of concept validation process. It also results in a substantial decrease in the go-to market time and ROI in the long run. That is why I switched to Webflow for all front-end development and prototoyping in 2018.

Why prototype when you can build an MVP?

My experience with both UX / UI design and front end development allows me to move certain aspects of prototype building in Figma over to Webflow, resulting in a prototype that is testable in any web browser on any device, and that can efficiently be transformed into a launchable MVP.

Transition to Webflow

I have assisted in the transition of  several companies websites and projects to a Webflow environment, and can solely design and develop a complex website in Webflow. I also have a network of other Webflow professionals that can assist with large or complex projects.

About

I made my first website in 1995 while I was working for IBM. That was the moment my passion for user experience and product design where born.

How it got started

I learned a lot from that first experience and am for ever grateful for the opportunity that IBM was providing in 1995 to 19-year olds with no university degree, but with a deep passion for computers & the internet.

Back in those days making websites also meant being an expert in branding, marketing so for well over a decade I also worked in the role of art director, brand designer, and marketing campaign strategist in the past for several international clients, providing full service solutions all the way from strategy to development and release.

What's happening now

In the last decade I have focuses on how design operations integrates with product strategy and development operations, integrating design best practices and design systems in several digital platforms.

I have also focussed heavily on product strategy and product management,
